ASME SA556 B2 seamless feedwater heater tubes

ASME SA556 B2 seamless feedwater heater tubes are carbon steel tubes that are designed according to the ASME/ASTM A556/A556M specification.

ASME SA556 B2 is a specification for minimum wall thickness, seamless cold-drawn carbon steel tubes used in tubular feedwater heaters. This specification covers U-tubes made from seamless cold-drawn carbon steel, with the tubing sizes ranging from 5/8 inch to 1-1/4 inch (15.9mm to 31.8mm) outside diameter. The tubes covered by ASME SA556 B2 can be bent into the form of U-tubes, as specified.

The specification is similar to ASTM A556/A556M, which also covers seamless cold-drawn carbon steel tubes for use in tubular feedwater heaters, including bending into the form of U-tubes if specified.

Heat Treatment

Cold-drawn tubes shall be heat treated after the final cold-draw pass at a temperature of1200°F [640°C] or higher to ensure ductility satisfactory for rolling into tube sheets and to meet mechanical properties as specified.

If stress-relief anneal of the U-bends is specified, the anneal shall consist of heating the bent portion within a range of 1100 to 1200°F [585 to 640°C].
