15CrMoG
Chromium molybdenum alloy steel pipe designed for high-temperature and high-strength applications.
ASTM A335 P11 is the part of ASTM A335, the pipe shall be suitable for bending, flanging, and similar forming operations, and for fusion welding.
ASME A335 P11 refers to a specification under the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) for seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes. These pipes are primarily used in high-temperature services such as in boilers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels, making them essential in industries like power generation, petrochemical processing, and oil and gas.
Chrome-Moly Alloy: P11 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, commonly referred to as chrome-moly. The composition typically includes:
Benefits of Chromium: Provides corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, making the material suitable for high-temperature environments.
Benefits of Molybdenum: Increases the steel’s strength and enhances resistance to creep, especially in high-pressure, high-temperature settings.
ASME SA335/ASTM A335: These are identical standards specifying the requirements for seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipes for high-temperature services.
Other Relevant Standards: These pipes conform to multiple standards, including NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) and ISO for use in international applications.
Seamless Pipe Production: A335 P11 pipes are made through a seamless process, ensuring no welds and providing a smooth surface, which enhances their strength and resistance to high pressure.
Heat Treatment: P11 pipes typically undergo heat treatment processes such as normalizing, tempering, or quenching to achieve the desired mechanical properties.
Available Sizes: A335 P11 pipes come in a wide range of sizes, from small diameter pipes (1/8 inch) to large diameter pipes (up to 24 inches).
Wall Thickness: They are available in various wall thicknesses, typically defined by schedules (Sch 40, Sch 80, Sch 160, etc.) and based on the pressure requirements of the application.
Length: Commonly supplied in random lengths (17-24 feet) or fixed lengths depending on the application.
Hydrostatic Testing: Ensures the pipe’s ability to handle pressure without leaking or failing.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Includes ultrasonic, radiographic, and magnetic particle testing to detect any internal or surface defects.
Chemical and Mechanical Testing: Ensures that the chemical composition and mechanical properties meet the required standards.

Steel pipe delivery status(condition): cold / hard (BK), cold / soft (BKW), after cold stress relief annealing (BKS), annealing (GBK), normalized (NBK).
| Term | Symbol | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Cold-finished/hard (cold-finished as-drawn) | BK | No heat treatment after the last cold-forming process. The tubes therefore have only low deformability. |
| Cold-finished/soft (lightly cold-worked) | BKW | After the last heat treatment there is a light finishing pass (cold drawing) With proper subsequent processing, the tube can be cold-formed (e.g. bent, expanded) within certain limits. |
| Annealed | GBK | After the final cold-forming process the tubes are annealed in a controlled atmosphere or under vacuum. |
| Normalized | NBK | The tubes are annealed above the upper transformation point in a controlled atmosphere or under vacuum. |
The general cold strip mills, volume should go through continuous annealing (CAPL unit) to eliminate cold hardening and rolling stress, or batch annealing reach the mechanical properties of the corresponding standard specifies. Cold rolled steel surface quality, appearance, dimensional accuracy better than hot-rolled plate, and right-rolled thin product thickness is about 0.18mm, so the majority of users favor.

Alloy steels are made by combining carbon steel with one or several alloying elements, such as manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper, chromium and aluminum. These metals are added to produce specific properties that are not found in regular carbon steel. The elements are added in varying proportions (or combinations) making the material take on different aspects such as increased hardness, increased corrosion resistance, increased strength, improved formability (ductility); the weldability can also change.
Commonly used alloying elements and their effects are listed in the table given below.
| Alloying Elements | Effect on the Properties |
|---|---|
| Chromium | Increases Resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Increases hardenability and wear resistance. Increases high temperature strength. |
| Nickel | Increases hardenability. Improves toughness. Increases impact strength at low temperatures. |
| Molybdenum | Increases hardenability, high temperature hardness, and wear resistance. Enhances the effects of other alloying elements. Eliminate temper brittleness in steels. Increases high temperature strength. |
| Manganese | Increases hardenability. Combines with sulfur to reduce its adverse effects. |
| Vanadium | Increases hardenability, high temperature hardness, and wear resistance. Improves fatigue resistance. |
| Titanium | Strongest carbide former. Added to stainless steel to prevent precipitation of chromium carbide. |
| Silicon | Removes oxygen in steel making. Improves toughness. Increases hardness ability |
| Boron | Increases hardenability. Produces fine grain size. |
| Aluminum | Forms nitride in nitriding steels. Produces fine grain size in casting. Removes oxygen in steel melting. |
| Cobalt | Increases heat and wear resistance. |
| Tungsten | Increases hardness at elevated temperatures. Refines grain size. |
