EN 10216-1 non alloy steel tubes

Non-alloy steel tubes

Non-alloy steel tubes are tubes made from steel that does not contain significant amounts of alloying elements.

Alloying elements are added to steel to enhance specific properties such as strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance. Non-alloy steel tubes, on the other hand, primarily consist of iron and carbon, with no or minimal additions of alloying elements.

These tubes are commonly used in various industrial applications where specific properties provided by alloying elements are not required. Non-alloy steel tubes may be produced through processes like hot rolling or cold drawing, and they are utilized in applications such as general engineering, construction, automotive, and structural components.

The absence of alloying elements in non-alloy steel tubes makes them more cost-effective and suitable for applications where the emphasis is on basic mechanical properties and formability. The specifications for non-alloy steel tubes are often outlined in standards such as EN 10216-1, which provides requirements for seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes.

What is non-alloy steel?

Non-alloy steel, also known as carbon steel, is a type of steel that contains only carbon and small amounts of other elements, such as manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. It is less expensive and easier to manufacture than alloy steel, but it has lower strength and other properties.
