What Is QT450-10 Fully Ferritic Ductile Iron?

QT450-10 is a mature fully ferritic spheroidal graphite ductile iron formulated under national standard GB/T 1348-2019. Its internal microstructure consists of evenly distributed spherical graphite nodules embedded in pure ferrite matrix, delivering perfect balance of tensile strength, ultra-high ductility and reliable low-temperature impact resistance without cold brittleness.

We supply two production grades to satisfy different working scenarios: as-cast high-toughness QT450-10 without heat treatment for sub-zero environments, and conventional annealed QT450-10 for general ambient temperature machinery with lower production cost.

Compared with pearlite ductile iron like QT600-3, QT450-10 owns far better plasticity and vibration damping performance. It can withstand repeated alternating impact loads, widely cast into auto chassis, hydraulic valve bodies, pipeline flanges and cold-area mechanical structural parts.

Key Performance Advantages of QT450-10 Ductile Iron

QT450-10 stands out among common nodular iron grades with comprehensive balanced performance:

  • Excellent low-temperature toughness: As-cast grade maintains stable impact value at -20℃ ~ -40℃, no brittle fracture under cold working conditions
  • Ultra-high ductility: Minimum elongation up to 10%, tolerates large deformation and cyclic impact loads
  • Two optional production processes: As-cast high-toughness version or full ferritizing annealing version for cost matching
  • Soft ferrite matrix (160~210 HBW), superior machinability, longer cutting tool service life
  • Strong vibration absorption & fatigue resistance, suitable for rotating and reciprocating equipment castings
  • Good casting fluidity, capable of manufacturing complex thin-wall castings with low shrinkage defects
  • Stable metallographic structure, consistent mechanical properties batch to batch

QT450-10 Chemical Composition (Mass Fraction %)

Strict control of impurity elements S/P, residual magnesium and rare earth to guarantee complete graphite spheroidization:

Selection Guide: Choose QT450-10 when you need balanced cost, ductility and -40℃ low temperature performance.

Machining & Installation Operation Tips

QT450-10 soft ferrite matrix brings easy machining, but standard operation is required to avoid hidden defects:

Cutting, drilling and tapping can be completed with common carbide tools with high efficiency. Avoid rapid thermal shock during machining to prevent surface microcracks.

For welding repair: Preheat castings to 200~300℃ before welding, slow furnace cooling after welding to eliminate welding stress and cold cracks.

During equipment assembly, avoid violent hammer striking; reserve deformation allowance for parts bearing alternating load to utilize its high ductility characteristic.

QT450-10 Metallurgical Design Superiority

The alloy formula is optimized for medium low-temperature industrial working conditions:

Controlled low manganese content prevents brittle grain boundary segregation; matched magnesium & rare earth additives realize complete spherical graphite nodulization without flake graphite defects.

Two production processes are designed for differentiated demand: as-cast grade cuts annealing cost for cold area projects; annealed grade reduces raw material cost for normal temperature mass production.

Uniform soft ferrite matrix balances mechanical strength and machining performance, lowering total manufacturing cost of finished castings.
